The Marilyn & Gordon Macklin Intergenerational Institute (Macklin Institute) was established in July 2003. The Institute was endowed by Marilyn & Gordon Macklin, former residents of Findlay, Ohio as a way to give back to a community that had been so good to them.

The Macklin Intergenerational Institute is a not-for-profit company encompassing intergenerational initiatives, consultation services, research, training, continuing education opportunities, and a quality intergenerational child care center.

The Macklin Intergenerational Institute oversees the day to day operations of Marilyn’s Lifelong Educational Center, which provides intergenerational programming and compassionate care for young children. Housed within Birchaven Retirement Village, Marilyn’s Lifelong Educational Center children learn through hands on explorations, daily interactions and guidance within a natural family-like environment. Planned hands on explorations are implemented by guides and are designed to help children learn life skills and gain an academic advantage. Interactions are either planned or qualify as friendly visits with elder friends throughout Birchaven Retirement Village.

The Macklin Institute's mission is:

To continually improve the lives of all ages through multi-age programming, care, community relationships, and creative communication.
